AWARDS DAY

I recently was given an award.
It came to me from:
A very interesting blog, written by a very  knowledgable person named
Marnie!
One of my goals is to learn something new every day. And a quick trip to
WHAT RED SAID
gets it done for me. Recently I learned how to open a coconut without using a
hammer or a screw-driver. And she taught me how to make "Almond Milk." And when it comes to
health and nutrition, she is a veritable Fount of Knowledge. Check her out. Tell Her KW sent you.

The rules for me to accept this award state that "I must list 7 things you don't know about me.

1} I haven't always been the nice guy I am now. There was a time when I was exactly the persona my  picture represents. You wouldn't believe what a total jerkm I used to be. But the Navy and God changed all of that.

2} That picture of myself in my "ACME ROCKET SLED" which I posted last week, didn't show the whole truth. The blanket on my lap is hiding the fact that I only have one leg.

3} In the mid 1960s my father packed his bags and dumped my mom and 3 kids. He never paid a single cent in child support. Quite frankly I was glad to see him go. Yet in my later life I felt the urge to contact him. In 1986 I had a phone conversation with him. He had been remarried 3 times and was still drunk. The last words I heard him speak that day were "Your family and my family are not the same family, boy. And the sooner you realize that, the better off you will be!"

At father's day in 1999, the preacher told the congregation that the Lord commands us to honor our fathers. Whether he was honorable or not! "Call your father today!" Easier said than done. I had no idea where he was. But I have considerable training in the JEDI ARTS! And the force is with me. So I started looking for him. It was not an all out search, mostly around Father's Days. But recently I found a document that says someone claimed the Social Security Death Gratuity for him, in Lumberton, N.C. My father was dead. And strangely I felt nothing.

4} I have been a motorcycle enthusiast all my life, seriously. I still have a plan to ride a motorcycle again.

5} I am a man of simple pleasures. My favorite snack is Kippered Herring and Ritz Crackers. My second favorite Snack is Kippered Herring and Saltine Crackers. What I call "Surf-n-Turf" you call "Sliders and fish sticks."

6} I'm an excellent cook.

7} I am truly THANKFUL for all of you here. You make my days easier and brighter. You teach me things I never thought possible.

Now that this is my award. Here are the new rules for accepting this award.
You must keep doing what you do best. Keep on Blogging, and pass it on!

My nominations are:

She is my fashionista mentor. From beautiful clothes to home decor.
She has an eye for it all.

This little Texas sweetie brings a new charm to the world
with duct tape and style from the single-wide.

A fellow SoCal blogger, she helps me stay the
course. And has been so tolerant of my sweet disposition.
Plus, she gives away books. And I have had the good fortune to have won a couple.

This woman took it upon herself to get the schooling she needed
to make her way in the legal profession. Her take on people looking for love
always makes me laugh.

This little lady has the knowing of a great many things about
GRUNGE METAL MUSIC
ALICE IN CHAINS
is her specialty. And she's a big player in my my
Support Team.

This lady is my biggest
CHEERLEADER
Her name is Ophilia and she promises to scare you.

This person's courage in the face of  the trials
and tribulations of today, inspire me to carry on smartly.

This person and I have never met. Yet  the tales from
her youth, of how she responded to things so closely echos my own
that it is like looking into a mirror when I read it.

Alice is The Poet Laureate of The Blogosphere.
She is one of my favorite reads. She is a consummate
WORDSMITH.

This blogger gave up her career and devoted herself to
caring for her wounded warrior. As I have said many times here "I am no hero."
But this person is. She and her husband tell a story that needs to be heard.
Go there, and learn what it means to be a hero!

========================================================================

When you go visit these people, be mindful that even if they are not "YOUR CUP OF TEA" They are mine. So be respectful.
BE WELL. BE BLESSED. AND BE A BLESSING!

Kurt,

You never cease to amaze me at just how far God has brought you in your life and how changed you've become in the process.

You could have become bitter when life handed you lemon after lemon but not only did you make lemonade but you created all kinds of stuff with lemons. You are now a Lemon-Master.

Thanks for passing this along. I will post it coming up here in the next couple of days, but as always I am honored by your thoughtful words of encouragement.

And then I read about your father. I think my dad loved me...but as he gold older he seemed to shut down and began to speak less and less. He was angry with me when he died. I never knew why and like you I didn't cry...ane I didn't know why.

An award? Thank you.

Seven things you didn't know about me...

1. I hate my mother.
2. I envy my sister.
3. I wish I didn't get my first husband's name tattooed on my chest then try to have it covered up by another hideous tattoo.
4. I took one of my dogs to the pound.
5. I drink every night.
6. I have been pregnant 3 times but only have 2 kids.
7. I declared bankruptcy in 2002.

There, fucking said it!!

Thank you for nominating me !

I'm sorry to hear about your father. Parents can be so cruel sometimes. In a sick and twisted way, he really did you a favor by leaving you out of his life.

My beef isn't with my dad, it's with my mom, but I'm almost over it.

Sorry about your dad, but I know what you mean about not feeling anything. He was your biological father. He wasn't a dad. And you have a heavenly father who loves you to pieces and WE are definitely in the same family, my friend.

Great award! Not as prestigious as all those medals, but nice none the less. Be blessed & be a blessing!

What a beautiful and moving post KW. I loved the line reminding people o be respectful of the bloggers you've listed as they're your cup of tea. :)

You're a rarity ,you know.

I hope that you're riding your bike again soon. Surely it is possible. I worked with a lady who'd recently had one of her legs off and she was getting her car worked over so she could continue driving and had every intention of continuing her horse riding. She was 87.

How's Baby Warrior btw?

Darling, you've been feted! How wonderful. Congratulations! I hope that you won't think me inelegant for not visiting sooner, but I had mah jong followed by a lengthy and very tiresome session with my astrologer abd then lunch with Bitsy and Mabel. I'm telling you darling, true genius is always surrounded by a confederacy of dunces trying to bring her down! What can I do? Still, the Red Guard in their heyday couldn't have kept me away in the end.

Air kisses,

Babs

(PS--this is Fireblossom. Please forgive my alter-ego Babs, she can't help herself. I really should have been here sooner. Forgive me, please?)
