Steve Harvey Presents...

If given the chance to introduce Jesus Christ to someone, I can only hope to be this grandiloquent. This did not take place in a church or a revival meeting. But, at a concert in front of an audience that paid to attend. Now that's rebellious. God bless Steve Harvey!

Patriotic Banter

I am trying very hard, to determine which side of This new healthcare issue I want to support. There are two basics sides to the issue.

1. It makes sense to give medical coverage to the poor and disenfranchised people who can’t manage to get coverage from an employer program. No matter what the cost, no matter what happens to the economy or the medical system we already have. It is the fair way to redistribute the wealth. Isn’t that why we revere Robin Hood? After all the president says he’s going to tax the super rich elitist Americans to fund this initiative. that doesn’t affect anyone I know of. Except a friend who just went through a divorce and is faced with no medical support for the first time in her life. She would benefit and it wouldn’t hurt very many multi millionaires.

2. The conservative side of the argument says that the whole thing is a boondoggle designed to make the fledgling president look good in the eyes of the people. And if this gets enacted; the medical system in America will collapse under the weight. And within 10 years our government will be irrevocably bankrupt. Our economy will collapse and the US will cease to be a world power.

I will ask my nurse and my Doctor, both of whom I credit with saving my life several times. My doctor is the most caring person I have ever had the pleasure to know (except for my wife of 28 years). She has not only saved my life, literally, She has saved me from a fate worse than death (ie. living as a bed ridden slobbering quadriplegic). More than once. What they tell me I have believed in the past. And this issue affects them more directly than anyone I know. I will be sure to tell you their opinions and what effect they have on me and my decision.

A new look at gun-control

This guy effectively uses humor, to get a very serious point across. Don't take it lightly. Erosion of your rights is a very serious issue. Think of it this way... If a rapist breaks into your house at night when only your wife and 14yr. old daughter are at home. Who do you want to be living next door? A card-carrying NRA number? Or some bleeding heart liberal who "doesn't believe in guns"?

You Must WORK TO KEEP YOUR RIGHTS

GUN-CONTROL DOES NOT EQUAL CRIME-CONTROL.
Academic studies have supportted this view for decades.

Clear the breech

I have learned the difference between a patriot and someone who acts patriotically! A patriot is not just a flag waver or a sideline cheerleader or an armchair general or a civilian advisor or an expert historical analyzer. All of those in and of themselves are fine, but on their best day, that is all they are. Police officers and fire fighters although they may be heroic and often share many of the attributes of a patriot, are not patriots. They may be patriotic, they may risk their life for others, they may be true heroes... but that does not make them a patriot. Being a member of the military does not automatically qualify you as a patriot

A patriot is the person who holds his or her hand up when asked "who will go?" Or "who will answer the call to duty?" Or "who will put their life on the line so that others may enjoy the fruits of freedom?" A patriot also answers these calls with no thought of reward or remuneration beyond the feeling of satisfaction from having done a job well. In fact if you ask a true patriot why they do what they do, they generally won't be able to give you an answer, or they simply say "If I have to explain you wouldn't understand... " in fact, they may not actually understand why they do what they do, it's just inherent to their nature.

By the same token that you can't understand why patriots do what they do, most patriots can't understand why non-patriots are the way they are. They can't understand why some people feel threatened by the American flag, or why some people who have worked so hard to come to America to live under the protection of patriots, feel they owe allegiance to the country they left. Go around the world visit all of the beautiful places there are to see, experience all that the cultures of the world has to offer, stay gone as long as you want. Then come back to America with your mind full of wonderful memories from your travels, and you will be truly rare if you don't feel a certain sense of security or safety that you did not experience anywhere else in the world. And it's not a false sense of security were merely relocating to the land of familiarity or re-associating to the mores with which you grew up, gives you a sense of reassurance. It's not just "there's no place like home", it's "there's no Place like America!"

Check the Bore

True patriots are not myopic! They do not blindly follow the whims and fancy of politicians or tyrants or dictatorial leaders. They are able to think for themselves, and make up their own minds and don't narrow mindedly believe that America is always correct. It does not take a certified historian to point out all the times that America has been wrong in the past. That is the unfortunate truth, America has not always been led by patriots. Sometimes it is led by people who believe they are right simply because they were elected and they vehemently denounce anybody and everybody who has a different opinion. The primary reason for term limitation on the office of president was to prevent any one person or group of persons from establishing a monarchy in the United States. That was the exact form of government we rebelled against when we fought the American Revolution.

Probably the most repulsive episode in American history was the dichotomy that was created when the documents which established the United States and waved the banner of "freedom for all" at the very same time, the people who wrote them ordained and upheld the establishment of slavery in America.

Even today, pseudo-intellectuals, and pseudo-patriots will say strange things to defend America. One of the strangest I have ever heard is "the Civil War was not fought to free the slaves... it was to establish the rights of individual states, to conduct interstate commerce and self-government..." nothing could be further from the truth.

On the brink of the Civil War, on March 21, 1861, Alexander H. Stephens, vice president of the U.S. Confederacy, gave his famous Cornerstone Speech , in which he declared that slavery was the natural condition of blacks and the reason for the foundation of the confederacy(Emphasis mine). It has been wrongly argued that Stevens made this speech merely to keep unsympathetic northerners from joining the Union Army. And while there may be some truth to it, that argument would not have kept true patriots from joining the Army and fighting against something as hideous and un-American as slavery. So a true patriot will always be at odds with a statement like "slavery was okay, because back then the law allowed it. " There is no wiggle room on this issue. Slavery was wrong, and America was wrong for allowing it.
