The STING

I have to print a retraction. My last post announcing a NEW VIRUS was the result of a bet I had with a fellow Security Specialist. He bet me that people (Users) never read Security warnings. In spite of the fact that I put the punch line in bold red letters, everyone assumed I had infected my own computer with an email virus.
I was so sure he was wrong, that I accepted the bet and wagered that someone would notice it. The deal was if Kevin was right; I would post no more security alerts.
Kevin was right. No one noticed. And some even sent condolences.
I APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE FOR BORING YOU WITH SECURITY INFO. I ALSO APPOLOGIZE TO THE GREAT FOLKS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE OR UNDUE ALARM THE LAST POST MAY HAVE CAUSED. I NEVER MEANT TO SULLY YOUR REPUTATION.
From here on out I will confine my posts to topics of popular interest.
Thank you for putting up with it.

Ok, I admit it, I read far enough to know which email to NOT open and not the rest of it.

*guilty*guilty*guilty

Lesson learned.

I read the whole thing but I was late in getting here. If I hadn't already known it was a joke, I would have read it again because I know you are way smarter than to intentionally infect your own computer. I would have assumed that I must be misunderstanding what actually happened.

Your internet safety is good info Mr Warrior. I think the techy talk throws people. It's good to know I have a techy friend to turn to when I need one. :)

Happy Valentime's Day!

I read it all and still had no clue that was a punch line! Thanks for pointing out my ignorance... like I need any help!

I"ll admit I scrolled down to where the offensive e-mail address was and took note.

What does it mean when you go to someone's blog page and your computer starts automatically opening tab after tab after tab connecting over and over to that site? This recently began to happen whenever I visit one of my favorite bloggie's sites. I can never stop it, no matter what I click on. I've just been turning my computer off w/o any shutdowns or anything- I'm pretty sure that's not good.

Any ideas?

You have probably helped a lot of people with your security info. Don't throw in the towel.

Personally, as you know by now, most of that stuff is just too far over my head. I think I mentioned before that it took me forever just to learn how to link (again, thanks to Kelly and Edie).

I did, however, take your advise about occasionally changing passwords and making them "jumbled" (add in a cap or a number etc). SO, your security posts do help...even the most computer challenged.

Speaking of being computer challenged. I love my award and am posting them...as soon as Kelly gets a chance to help me. :)

Um, is this what you meant? I don't know that I have your e-mail address. Do I?

Anyway, I went over to Mrs. E's at above address, copy and pasted that real quick and x-ed out of there as fast as I could. The problem did not occur.

It might be that the problem occurs only when I click on a particular article on her blog and not the blog in general. Or maybe it starts as soon as I click on her comment link- it definately happens when I do that.

Thanks,
Heidi

What 2Thinks is describing happened to me one time with one of my bloggy friends when she asked me to help her with something. She was adding code to a scrolling widget but somehow leaving out a closing tag so it was capturing all widgets below it. Not sure if the tab opening incident was related to the problem or if it was just a fluke but it only happened once.

I bet that didn't help a bit too. LOL! Sorry. :D

Too funny.
Topics of popular interest, you say?

Let me help you out with that.
I'm sure you want to keep a tab on what the world is looking for the most - what are the most common searched topics and what is on the mind of people.

1. Danica Sue Patrick
2. Sex
3. Valentine's day ideas
4. Easter
5. Toyota problems
6. Earthquakes
7. Superbowl commercials
