the politics, music and attitude of

WOODSTOCK

Some people say "HIPPIES" like they know anything about the subject.

PEACE, LOVE AND PEACE...

SORRY FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS. BUT BACK IN
1969, THERE WAS NO MTV, VH1,
OR POLITICAL SOUND BITES.

Well, I came upon a child of God,
He was walking along the road,
And I asked him, Tell me, Where are you going?
This he told me...

Said, I'm going down to Yasgur's farm,
Gonna join in a Rock and roll band.
Gotta get back to the land and set my soul free.

We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Well, then can I roam beside you?
I have come to loose the smog,
And I feel a cog,
in something turning.

And maybe it's the time of year,
yes and maybe it's the time of man.
And I don't know who I am.
But life is for learning.

We are star dust, we are golden,
we are billion year old carbon,
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

We are star dust, we are golden,
we are billion year old carbon,
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

By the time we got to Woodstock,
we were half a million strong.
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bomber death planes,
riding shotgun in the sky,
turning into butterflies
above our nation.

We are star dust,
we are golden,
we are billion year old carbon,
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Love all of these... I was too young to be able to attend Woodstock, but can you imagine the atmosphere... all those great artists, some yet to be discovered..

Richie Havens performed in our little town to benefit a community garden last year... he sang freedom better than ever, and you would not believe the people practically on their knees in worship of that era, that time. The song brought it back to them.. He was phenomenal... and yes, alittle stoned :-)

Woodstock facts:

It was arranged by a Collumbia REcords Exce who Jim Morrison had insulted years earlier, who held a grudge and would not let The Doors perform at Woodstock. Shame for they were a huge California band in '69 and should have been there and the exec changed history by not allowing them to be.

Jimi Hendrix smashed his guitar on stage[prior to Woodstock] when he got frustrated that he could not get a specific sound out of it.Little did he know he was spawning a decades long rock tradition that all bands follow to this day.

Hendrix was amazing the way he could 'bend' the guitar. Incredible!

I have those albums. cosby stills nash and young. And original Woodstock albums set. Mother had all of them. She was big intop music...she influenced me. She loved Joan Baez...her favorite Sir Galahad. I have all of her music. my mother passed away. All this music reminds me of her.

hey where's the Cowsills...I saw her sitting in the rain. raindrops falling on her. she didn't seem to care. She sat there smiling at me...and I knew...I knew....I knew...she would make me happy...happy happy. :)

I caught a Richie Havens performance at a county fair several years ago. he is awesome.

BTW, Jimmy Hendrix was murdered.

fab post honey. but I knew...I knew...I knew it would be. xxx

This is the music that held my attention as a youth. I was not at woodstock. But I am old enough to have been, and I was acutely aware of it when it was happening.
@spike, yes Jimi was murdered. and I bet if you ask Heff, he can tell you that Courtney Love did it...

I've enjoyed this post! It's one of those events that can never be recaptured, no matter how hard they tried.

I was not at Woodstock, but I graduated HS that May. I was hard at work beginning business college 5 days after graduation from HS.

It was my time but where I'm from we weren't hippies. I feel more like one of those these days!

This post reminds me of my son- a wannabe fulla wanderlust. He just told me today he'll phone me after this weekend to tell me about the 48 hour concert in San Fran he's attending there Sat. and Sun.

I like coming over here to see what time it is there. :)

Too young to be at Woodstock, but I know that song, can't remember who sang it though.
Loved this post. I like songs with meanings and, like most people, I think today's music is totally meaningless.
